We went to the Temple on Saturday with our Canadian friend, Erika. Like us, her and her husband are among the few Mormon expats in Oxford. We get to bond over many things, including the constant longing for a car. So we often share rides for Church, shopping, Temple...etc. I had forgotten how inconvenient not having a car can be. Don't get me wrong, we love living the "true European life" where you walk and bus everywhere, but I think I have been spoiled by too many years of driving for absolutely EVERYTHING. Somehow, I don't seem as willing to break my back carrying heavy loads of groceries anymore.
Anyways, it usually takes about 1 hour and a half each way to go to the Temple. This weekend, it took us FIVE hours both ways! We spent more time in the car than we did at the Temple. Traffic was SO bad, we just kept hitting one accident after the other. The torrential rain didn't help of course, but you would think English people would be used to driving in the rain by now. Well, they are not. Traffic is always terrible when it rains, and everyone always seems to be so surprised about it!
We usually listen to Conference on the way to the Temple, so it wasn't too bad, but my favorite part is the way back. We get to listen to the Harry Potter books, which I love! That's the only thing that made this trip bearable, and the Temple of course :)
See the few pictures I managed to take in between two monumental showers:
